Flow of Funds In recognition of the critical role that the arts play in economic development and as a stimulus to local and regional economies, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provided $50 million in funding for arts organizations nationally to fund arts projects and activities which preserve jobs in the nonprofit arts sector. This $50 million was allocated to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The NEA administered $30 million (60%) of these funds directly to cultural organizations. The remaining $20 million (40%) was distributed to an extensive array of State Arts Agencies, Regional Arts Organizations and designated local arts agencies across the nation. The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) administered $399,900 of these funds to eligible New York State not-for-profit cultural organizations through a competitive panel review process.
