Funds are used to investigate and cleanup contaminated hazardous waste National Priority List (NPL) sites. ARRA funds provided supplemental funding for this purpose. Two sites in New York have been identified to be cleaned up by USEPA using ARRA funds to supplement a portion of the cleanup costs. The two NPL sites are both on Long Island. They are Old Roosevelt Field (DEC site no. 130051)in the Village of Garden City, Nassau County and Lawrence Aviation (DEC site no. 52016) in Port Jefferson, Suffolk County.

USEPA will use an estimated $5-10 million of ARRA funds for Old Roosevelt Field (see http://www.epa.gov/superfund/eparecovery/old_roosevelt_field.html ) and up to $5 million for Lawrence Aviation (see http://www.epa.gov/superfund/eparecovery/lawrence_aviation.html). |

USEPA will allocate the funds directly to NPL projects. The State is required to enter into a Superfund State Contract with USEPA that commits the State to fund 10% of the total cleanup costs.
